Databases
What's the big deal with Databases?
The database is the heart of your application. Like the engine is to your car, the database is the hardest working part of your application.
With so many to choose from, which one is the best Database?
Since the best database is the one fitted to your needs, we cannot just go out and say one's better than another one. However, these are the guidelines we use to help us decide which one is the right one for you:
- How much information are you going to store?
- Is the application for the internet, corporate network, or both?
- Is there more than one location sharing the database?
- What is the platform of your server?
- What language is your application going to be programmed in?
- Is your server strictly for the database, or for other operations as well?
- What database are your existing applications using?
- What is your budget for your database?
- Do you have any partnerships or agreements with an existing database company?
The only database we do not suggest for web applications, is MS Access.
Rapid application development
Although we use the most eficient method for developing web applications, the same application may take more or less time depending on the database platform you choose.
Platform independance
Since we are certified Pervasive SQL technicians and DBA trainers, we do suggest Pervasive SQL database for many web applications. Many large applications use Pervasive SQL such as AccPac. One of the biggest advantages to Pervasive SQL, is that it works on many platforms:
- Windows NT server, Windows 2000 server, Windows server 2003
- Novell Netware 3.0 +
- Solaris
- Linux Red Hat, Calders, and SuSE
